The agitating Unified CPN (Maoist) has decided to declare various autonomous federal units across the country from December 11 to 18.
A meeting of the Maoists’ National People’s Movement Committee (NPMC) in presence of in charges of various ethnic and regional fronts decided to declare autonomous federal units in various parts across the country. The party had postponed such programme in its second phase agitation.
Informing the reporters about the decision of the meeting, Thursday, NPMC chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai said, we have decided to declare autonomous federal units from December 11 to 18.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Maoist affiliated trade union had decided to call a nationwide strike on December 10.
The Maoists have already decided a general strike from December 20 – 22. They have warned they would continue with the strike if their demands were not met before this three-day general strike.
The Maoists are agitating against an incident in May when the decision of the erstwhile Maoist-led government to sack former army chief Rookmangud Katuwal was overruled by President Ram Baran Yadav.
They have already completed two phases of the agitation with various programmes. nepalnews.com
